We caught up with one of our favourite French Connection models, Lily Jean Harvey, to discuss our new SS22 collection shoot that she features in, causes close to her heart, her inspirations and advice for any aspiring models.

Lily Jean, tell us a little bit about yourself…
I am, most of all, creative. I love to write, paint, draw. Modelling is an extension of that creativity for me. What else? I love dancing with my friends. Everyone should dance more.
What did you enjoy the most about the SS22 French Connection shoot?
The set was fantastic. It’s not every day I go to work and get to roll around in the grass.
Our shoot was inspired by the environment, nature, and communities – how important are these aspects to you?
After the chaos of the last few years, I think many people have found themselves drawn to the solace that the outdoors can provide. Myself included.
I really don’t think the healing and meditative potential of immersing oneself in nature can be underestimated. I don’t know about you, but there’s a feeling that I only really get when I’m in the forest, or by the sea – just sublime.
What is community to you?
Ideally, community means being held, feeling supported and feeling heard. Community can be as simple as sharing music online, or supporting a social cause – it doesn’t matter, I think both are as valid.
Playing an active role in any kind of community can have a really beautiful effect, because we learn so much more from others, than we do through reductive individualist thinking.
What causes are close to you heart when it comes to nature, the environment and community?
I’ve been vegan for 3 and a half years; the way we regard animal life in the West makes me deeply uncomfortable.
Who/what has inspired you the most?
Rebecca Solnit. But Emily Ratajkowski is a close second, after having just finished My Body.
What advice do you have for any aspiring models?
Your worth was never, is never, will never be, dictated by your appearance. You have so much more.
