How To: Dress For New Year's Eve with WhatEvaWears

Author Editor - 3 minute read
What a year 2024’s been, and it deserves to be seen out in style. Whether you’re a club-goer or house party host, if you’re wondering what to wear to a New Year’s Eve party, then we’ve got 4 of the best New Year’s Eve outfit ideas worth toasting to – with approval and styling tips from WhatEvaWears – cheers to that!

THE SEQUIN DRESS

If you can’t wear sequins at New Years, then when can you? The ‘it’ party dress of the season, a sequin dress, is a no-brainer for end-of-year celebrations, and it’s guaranteed to be a 2024 wardrobe highlight. Catching the disco ball at every angle, a shimmering sequin party dress is sure to cue compliments amidst the countdown.

Eva advises: “I think a lot of us have that “I love this outfit, but will I be too cold in it?” dilemma every year. One solution is to up your outerwear game and pair the outfit with a big faux fur coat or jacket to keep you warm. If you’re wearing a mini dress, consider patterned tights – they’ll allow you to stay warm whilst also keeping the outfit interesting and making a statement.”

THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS

No occasionwear collection is complete without a trusty LBD or two, or three… A black mini dress is a reach-for style no matter the time of year, but in 2024 the trending styles are those with something a little extra about them. Whether embellishment, embroidery or as our Gemma Carey, taps into the tailored trend, the best little black dress for this year is one with unique detailing.

Eva’s styling tip?: “Red lipstick! It’s a classic for a reason, folks! It doesn’t matter what you’re wearing – as soon as you add a red lip the whole look is transformed.”

THE METALLIC DRESS

Metallics are a hot trend right now, meaning a gold or silver dress are New Year’s Eve party outfits that will inevitably attract attention long before midnight strikes. Match your jewellery to your dress shade for a put-together party look worthy of a spot on your ‘gram feed.

If Eva had to choose one party outfit?: “Either a sparkly mini dress or a slinky slip dress – I can’t decid, it really depends on my mood! Either dress paired with heels, lots of gold jewelery and a sleek bun is probably my favourite evening look.”

THE TAILORED PARTYWEAR

If a tailored two-some is more your style, then look no further than our ladies’ suiting for the season. We love a versatile co-ord, I mean, who doesn’t love an outfit they know they’ll get plenty of future wears out of, both worn separately and together? Whether sticking to the classic black pairing, or reaching for sparkling sequin or statement coloured suits, tailoring’s transformation into partywear is here to stay.

Eva’s final styling tip?: “Make sure you’re comfy! There’s nothing worse than wearing something you don’t feel comfortable in, whether it’s too tight or too restrictive. I always make sure I’m wearing something that I don’t have to think or worry about at all - I like to be able to eat, drink and move freely - it’s what festive season is all about, after all!”

How does Eva celebrate New Year’s Eve?

“In all honesty, me and my friends are last minute (or perhaps just disorganised!). We’ll likely be devising our NYE plans on the group chat in those weird days between Christmas and New Years - I’ll probably have my outfit sorted before the actual event plans! It’ll likely be a house party, though, as going out-out can be hit and miss. So long as there’s an opportunity to see some fireworks, I’m happy!”

From all of us at French Connection, we hope the year’s been good to you, and here’s to an even better 2025! x
