In conversation with: One of our in-house models, Maddie Demaine

Author Editor - 2 minute read

Working from home has become the norm for most of us and we’ve all learnt to adapt to this new way of life. This season, we’re taking a new approach to our next collection’s photography and bringing fashion home.

We caught up with one of our favourite French Connection in-house models, Maddie Demaine, who has been busy shooting our next collection at home, to discuss what it’s like WFH as a model, her lockdown go-to look, plus how she’s keeping positive during these current times.

As a model, what’s it been like working from home?

Working from home at the start of lockdown seemed like a daunting task, but thankfully I have lovely clients who’ve also adapted their industry to make it possible. Once I got to grips with it all, it’s comes like second nature.

What has been your go-to look for lockdown style?

My go-to look has been joggers and a basic tee, but make it fashion of course!

How have you been keeping positive during lockdown?

I do a lot of self-care to keep positive. I make sure to take time for myself and relax - I find meditation really beneficial at the moment. I’ve also been decorating my home, which has really kept me busy and put my mind at ease - it’s quite therapeutic.

How have you been keeping connected with your family members & friends during this time?

I do a lot of Zoom and Face Time calls with my family and friends. It’s taken a while for my grandparents to get a hang on how to actually do it, but with a little help it’s been great. Both my grandma and my grannie are on their own, so I make sure I call them and have a nice chit chat.

You recently walked for FC during New York Fashion Week, what was that experience like? What is it like living in New York, any recommendations?

It was such a great honour to walk in the French Connection show in February. It was home away from home! It was so lovely to see some friendly familiar faces, plus the excitement of the whole show was great.

I loved New York City. Sadly it was cut short due to the current situation, but I’m eager to get back out there, once everything has gone back to normal. I’d definitely recommend trying to walk everywhere you can, take it all in - it’s such an exciting city, there’s so many things to do.

Quick fire questions...

Spring summer or autumn winter… I’m definitely a spring summer person - the sun and sea makes me so happy. That being said, I love the fashion of winter and being cosy at home when it’s raining outside.

Currently binge-watching… Ozark, on Netflix. If you haven’t watched it, do it now.

I can’t wait to… travel again, work, go holiday but mainly to actually socialise with my friends and family.

After work, you’ll usually find me… at home cooking with friends and watching Ru Paul’s Drag Race, I’m obsessed.

What's the one thing you can't live without? I can’t live without my phone, purely for Google Maps, as I’m always getting lost.

Career highlight so far… There are so many amazing highlights it’s hard to choose. But my one major highlight was working with Burberry in their Brit fragrance campaign, it was one of my first jobs and it was so surreal. Another highlight was moving to New York for two months (Hopefully for longer next time around). I felt like I was really pushing my career the way I wanted it to go – It was chaotic bliss.
