Assistant Merchandiser for French Connection

Key Objective:

To support the Merchandising team to maximise all Retail Commercial opportunities through the effective management of inventory, driving sales through improved availability and forecasting and reducing mark down and maximizing profit.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Trading & Forecasting:

  • Provide all Weekly Merchandising Reports for the Retail/Department Business
  • Provide weekly summary of key performance indicators - relating to sales, stock, profit, and markdown versus budget and last year for both Total Department and by Category Level
  • Provide weekly action plan for Retail/Department Business
  • Provide weekly Best and Worst Updates
  • Key contact for all analysis relating to the Department
  • Key contact for any stock issues
  • Work with the Allocators to control inventory levels, allocations and replenishment as required
  • Maintain Weekly Stock Sales and Intake forecasts (WSSI)
  • Manage intake into stores to hit monthly forecasts, drive sales and minimise risks
  • Communicate with Warehouse and Merch Manager for short term work flow planning and longer term intake planning
  • Responsible for OTB Management and key contact for OTB queries
  • Responsible for maintaining Department Promo Calendar /Trading Log
  • Provide analysis and summary of Markdown and Promotional activity for Stores
  • Responsible for ensuring that mark downs / promotions are on the system in line with the mark down calendar
  • Interact with other teams to improve seasonal performance and drive best practices
  • Conduct detailed ad-hoc analysis when required on specific products/product groups
  • Key contact for merchandise reporting and all aspects of merchandising processes and system use
  • Work with Outlet Merchandiser to maximise sales on Outlet stock in stores
  • Undertake regular Store Visits with Merchandiser and Buying to see the Range in stores. Also review Back of House in terms of stock levels. An update should be sent to all relevant parties once the visit is completed and any follow up work undertaken
  • Work with Ecom team to help maximise sales and profits for the business, by ensure correct product, pricing and size availability are visible.

Planning:

  • Create Seasonal Plans for the Department - In line with Company KPI's
  • Provide historical analysis to develop Seasonal Plans
  • Category Seasonal Plans to be created
  • OTB Plans to be set for the Department, broken by Category
  • Create seasonal markdown planning documents for review with MD versus Financial targets
  • Seasonal Sizing Analysis to be undertaken and new season buys planned accordingly
  • ROS Of Sale analysis to be undertaken and new Season Buys planned accordingly
  • Any other ad hoc Planning Packs to be created when requested
  • Assist in Range Selection providing relevant information to Buying and Merchandising

International Sales Internship

For students during their placement year

French connection is offering a student work placement / internship for a hard working individual to join our EMEA Wholesale department as an international sales intern. The intern will join a direct team of four within a larger wholesale department and 11 sales agents across Europe, as well as working closely with head office internal departments that include Marketing, Press, Design and Production.

This is the ideal position for someone keen to build a career in the fashion retail industry, gain experience within a well-known and established British fashion brand and to benefit from an exposure to all departments of the business.

What you will be doing:

  • Sales Agents support - Responding to requests from international sales agents, clients and buyers.
  • Order & Stocklist communications - Activating and overseeing all stock orders from our sales teams across Europe, amending orders, updating communications and sending out to sales teams, direct key clients and franchisees.
  • Recording, filing and logging – Logging of returns, shortages and filing seasonal forward orders.
  • Product presentations - involvement in seasonal presentations and catwalk shows for global buyers.
  • Product line lists - Creating line lists each season for new collections and maintain throughout the season.
  • Samples - Coordinating sample lending to clients for photo-shoots, press and blogger lend-outs etc.
  • Marketing/PR material & Image distribution –working alongside the graphic design team to manage the marketing material requests from clients and sharing product shots and campaign images for their sales use in season.
  • Social Media - take part in the management and support of our European social media account running. (This also includes supporting our team with any creative ideas on how we can increase our brand visibility and sales across our markets).
  • Press gifts / giveaways – organising, logging and sending out press gifting for international events.
  • As needed support –Involvement in various research (possible target clients and potential event planning) as well as putting together projects and presentations as needed.

Skills required:

  • Excellent communication skills: written and spoken and an understanding of different cultural mentalities.
  • To be meticulous with a keen eye for detail.
  • Organisation and task-management skills, as well as being able to work under pressure.
  • We are looking for someone who is a fast learner, open minded and easy going.
  • A pro-active approach, strong attention to detail and the ability to use their initiative in order to join our friendly team in a busy environment.
  • Basic Excel skills.
  • A keen interest in the fashion and retail business.
