As part of the French Connection Friday Late: Metal Rocks we have set a challenge
for all you budding jewellery designers out there.
the task
What we would like you to do is design a charm. There are no restrictions or limitations
on the design.
Just let your creative juices flow – we are looking for really original and unique
designs.
The winning design will then be manufactured and sold as a limited edition piece
exclusive to frenchconnection.com. If that's not exciting enough the winner will
also receive a copy of the sumptuous V&A book “Jewels and Jewellery” plus £500 worth
of French Connection gift vouchers!
design requirements
- The design must be submitted using the entry form.
- As much detail as possible should be included on the entry.
- The design must be practical as a charm and an original piece.
judging criteria
- Flair, creativity and originality in the design.
- Awareness of the French Connection customer who has a love of individual fashion,
oozes confidence and projects style.

French Connection Jewellery Design Competition Terms and Conditions
The Promoter is French Connection Limited, Centro One, 39 Camden Street, London
NW1 0DX. All queries should be directed to the Promoter c/o Marketing Department.
The competition is open to all UK residents over 18 other than employees of the
French Connection Group or their families, employees of V&A or Icon Live Limited
or their families, their agents or anyone directly connected with the competition.
To enter, entrants must submit their design on the charm design template, which
is available for download at www.frenchconnection.com/charmtrail and no more than
100 words of design context and background (the “Entry”). Entrants can submit either
hand drawn or digitised computer aided designs. Entries that do not comply in full
with these rules may be disqualified. Only Entries by individuals will be accepted.
Only one Entry per individual can be made. The prize is £500 worth of French Connection
vouchers and one copy of the Victoria & Albert Museum’s book “Jewels and Jewellery”.
The winning design will be manufactured and sold as a limited edition piece exclusively
online at www.frenchconnection.com within 150 days from the announcement of the
winner. The winner(s) agrees to make themselves available to the Promoter for consultation
and involvement during the period of manufacture of the winning Entry. Entries must
be submitted by either emailing as a PDF to competitions@frenchconnection.com (referencing
‘Metal Rocks competition’ in the subject line) or by post to Marketing Department,
French Connection, Centro One, 39 Camden Street, London NW1 0DX. Entries must be
received on or before the 22nd December 2008. No responsibility can be accepted
for entries lost, delayed, misdirected, undelivered or damaged in the post or offered
for delivery insufficiently stamped. Proof of deliver will not be accepted as proof
of receipt. The Promoter shall not be responsible for technical errors in telecommunication
networks, internet access or otherwise preventing entry to the competition. All
Entries will be judged by a panel comprising of two judges from French Connection.
The prize will be awarded to the Entry which in the judges’ view most closely addresses
flair, originality and creativity in jewellery design. The judges’ decision is final
and no correspondence will be entered into. A winning design will be selected from
the Entries by 11th January 2009. The winner(s) will be notified by 15th January
2009 by telephone or email. If the Promoter cannot make contact with the winners
within a reasonable period after the selection, the Promoter reserves the right
to select another winner. The details of the prize winner(s) will be published on
the French Connection website. The winner(s) may be required to participate in publicity
events. By entering the competition entrants give their consent to take part in
publicity of the competition and winning Entry and for their name and details of
their Entry to be published by the Promoter. No cash alternative will be offered
for the prize or for the manufacture of the design. The Promoter reserves the right
to substitute a prize of equivalent or greater value if this is necessary for reasons
beyond its control. The Promoter is not bound to award a winning prize if it does
not receive any Entries of a minimum standard of quality for production. The Promoter
shall decide in its sole discretion whether it has received sufficient Entries of
the required quality. If it has not, it may cancel the competition. The Promoter
reserves the right to alter, amend or foreclose this competition without prior notice
in the event that unforeseen circumstances make this unavoidable. Each entrant confirms
and warrants that its Entry is its own and original work. Each entrant warrants
that its Entry will not infringe the intellectual property of any third party. Each
entrant grants the Promoter a perpetual, royalty-free, fully paid-up, sub-licensable,
irrevocable, worldwide, exclusive license to use, display, publish, transmit, copy,
edit, alter, store, re-format its Entry in order to manufacture, sell and distribute,
market and promote its design. The Promoter will not return any Entries to any entrant
to the competition. The Promoter reserves the right to substitute or change materials/elements
of the winning Entry to ensure the design is within its budget. By entering this
competition each Entrant accepts and acknowledges that the Promoter and their agents
and subcontractors are involved in design or development of jewellery design and
may be in the course of developing designs with similar features to the Entry. Entrants
agree that neither the submission nor judging of the Entries nor anything in these
terms and conditions shall restrict the Promoter in any way in its development or
exploitation of such application or devices. By entering the competition each entrant
accepts and agrees to these terms and conditions. These terms and conditions are
governed by English Law and subject to the jurisdiction of the English courts.
